Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing: Applications and Techniques for Use in Design: Manufacturing, and Inspection (Dekker Mechanical Engineering) Feature

Explaining the symbology of dimensioning and tolerancing and introducing a step-by-step system for geometric definition, this book provides examples for the application of geometric controls. The author breaks down the language of geometric product definition into a series of steps that consist of significant questions to be asked at any point in the product definition. He addresses functional requirements and manufacturing techniques, measurement, inspection, and gaging procedures. The book illustrates how symbology is best utilized, in what order it should be applied, and how each geometric control anticipates, integrates, and complements all other geometric controls on a part and in an assembly.

Internal Flow: Concepts and Applications (Cambridge Engine Technology Series) Feature

Focusing on phenomena important in implementing the performance of a broad range of fluid devices, this work describes the behavior of internal flows encountered in propulsion systems, fluid machinery (compressors, turbines, and pumps) and ducts (diffusers, nozzles and combustion chambers). The book equips students and practicing engineers with a range of new analytical tools. These tools offer enhanced interpretation and application of both experimental measurements and the computational procedures that characterize modern fluids engineering.

Structural Design Optimization Considering Uncertainties: Structures & Infrastructures Book , Vol. 1, Series, Series Editor: Dan M. Frangopol (Structures and Infrastructures) Feature

Uncertainties play a dominant role in the design and optimization of structures and infrastructures. In optimum design of structural systems due to variations of the material, manufacturing variations, variations of the external loads and modelling uncertainty, the parameters of a structure, a structural system and its environment are not given, fixed coefficients, but random variables with a certain probability distribution. The increasing necessity to solve complex problems in Structural Optimization, Structural Reliability and Probabilistic Mechanics, requires the development of new ideas, innovative methods and numerical tools for providing accurate numerical solutions in affordable computing times.

This book presents the latest findings on structural optimization considering uncertainties. It contains selected contributions dealing with the use of probabilistic methods for the optimal design of different types of structures and various considerations of uncertainties. The first part is focused on reliability-based design optimization and the second part on robust design optimization. Comprising twenty-one, self-contained chapters by prominent authors in the field, it forms a complete collection of state-of-the-art theoretical advances and applications in the fields of structural optimization, structural reliability, and probabilistic computational mechanics. It is recommended to researchers, engineers, and students in civil, mechanical, naval and aerospace engineering and to professionals working on complicated costs-effective design problems.

Design for Product Success

Design for Product Success Review

Design for Product Success Feature

Design influences the cost of a product as it grows from conception, through stages of research, development, market testing, use, maturity, and, finally, disposal. An organization has the greatest control over the ultimate success of a product at the early stages of its creation, when the market, its factory and operational costs, and life cycle are determined.

Design for Product Success presents the concepts used as a basis for developing high-quality products through the examination of analytical tools and case studies. Some of the the topics explored in this book include: new product creation strategies and processes; creative design techniques; principel of design for manufacturing; design for disassembly; product team building; and characteristics of self-directed product team. A section on lean and its influence on product development is included, along with information on creating virtual prototypes with computer-aided design (CAD). Questions are provided for use in classroom settings.

Low Cycle Fatigue and Elasto-Plastic Behaviour of Materials Review

See more picture

Low Cycle Fatigue and Elasto-Plastic Behaviour of Materials Feature

The 4th International Conference on Low Cycle Fatigue and Elasto-Plastic Behaviour of Materials was held from 7-11 September 1998 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

In response to a call for papers, nearly 200 extended abstracts from 32 countries were submitted to the organizing committee. These papers were presented at the conference as invited lectures or short contributions and as oral or poster presentation. All the papers were presented in poster form in extended poster sessions–a peculiarity of the LCF Conferences which allows an intense, thorough discussion of all contributions.

Each chapter provides a comprehensive overview of a materials class or a given subject. Many contributions could have been included in two or even three chapters and so, in order to give a better overview of the content, the reader will find a subject index, a material index and an author index in the back of the book.
